Savanna Bop Baby Quilt...

Yes, another baby quilt!
My neighbor's daughter had a baby boy a couple of weeks ago.
I used this great fabric from designer Thomas Knauer,
Savanna Bop it's bright and fun!

I love this line, the bright colors and the cute elephants, giraffes, and rhinos oh my!
Enjoy your day,

the more you chase it,
the more it will elude you,
but if you turn your attention to other things,
it will come and sit softly on your shoulder.

Spice of life layout change???

Good morning,  It's a foggy morning here!
View from my sewing room window.

This is the original layout for Spice of Life quilt.

But of course I had to play around with the layout.

Layout 2

Layout #3

So which layout is your favorite??
Do you find yourself manipulate layouts?  Do you start making a quilt top and change your mind part way through the design process?  Or do you tend to follow the pattern?

Have a wonderful day,

Spice of life....

I saw this quilt in the background of a quilting magazine, I did some research and found the instructions in Miss Rosie's Spice of Life Quilts.  The name of the quilt is True Blue, it's done in scarps of blues and whites.  Lately I've been on a red kick, and decided I wanted to make this in red, with a beige/tan background and making the small pinwheels in a different color, dark brown. I also adjusted the pattern, the quilt was much bigger than I wanted to make, 85 x 85 and I just want a lap size.
I always seem to adjust or modify the patterns in some way, do you?

Here are the red, brown and beige/tan squares.
Lines draw diagonally with pencil on the light squares.

I have Fridays off, so I had a half an hour before I had to get the kids ready for school. I chained pieced the 5" squares, 40 sets, yeah me!  You can see it's still dark outside the and the photos aren't the best.

All set to be cut.

All cut..

To be continued....

Mama said sew continued .....

The top is sewed together and the backing is done.  I have the quilt all sandwiched together and now on to quilting.  I received Angela Walters new book for my birthday.
I can't wait to try to some of her techniques on this quilt - wish me luck! You can find her blog here.

Backing - is made from 4 pieces of 1/2 yard cuts,
I took the leftovers of my jelly roll and cut them into 1 1/2" pieces by 2 1/2"
and sewed them together - the backing wasn't quite long enough so I pieced them in between the 1/2 yard cuts.  I then added a 9" Kona Snow border on the each side. (The above picture does not show this.)

Enjoy your day,

Sneak Peak at Mama Said Sew..

Good Afternoon, it's a beautiful fall day here in the Northeast.
This morning we went to the corn maze, we do this every year it's so much fun!

I was rudely awaken by the hiccups at 5AM - which was really annoying!
So I got up and finished sewing my blocks for Stash Bee.

 Hive #4  blocks for Jennie
She asked for pink and purple, it's going to make a beautiful quilt for her Aunt.

Hive #2 - Blocks for Rachelle
These were fun to make and it's going to make a great quilt!

Here's the layout for my Mama Said Sew blocks.
I made this from one Jelly Roll and 2 yards of Kona Snow.
Thank you to the Fabric Shack for great customer service!
